A psycho-educational program to engage, empower and provide support for newly arrived Afghan Women
A monthly psycho-educational program sponsored by Catholic Charities, targeted towards Afghan refugee women and adolescents, aimed at providing them with the necessary skills and resources to address and cope with current mental health struggles and traumas as they adjust to their new surroundings. The program will promote mental health and well-being, providing education and support to help them deal with the stress of resettlement, trauma and other mental health issues.
MISSION
- To destigmatize mental illness through psychoeducation about common and expected mental health challenges
- To evaluate the needs of the group and implement clinically suitable interventions to tackle current mental health concerns, including serious mental illnesses (SMI)
- To establish a safe and culturally sensitive space for community support to facilitate a smoother transition to their new surroundings
- To provide education & awareness on issues involving maternal health and parent-child relationship
OTHER SUPPORTS
- Giving Afghan refugee women access to job opportunities and exposure to various industries
- Facilitating connections for Afghan refugee women to access healthcare services, including dermatology, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology
- Facilitating support groups for Afghan adolescents to assist them in managing the challenges and difficulties of adjusting to life in a new country
