NEW CHOICES
SERVICES TO SUPPORT YOUNG ADULTS WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS
For adolescents and young adults struggling with substance abuse, learning to live life substance-free can be a challenging process. When seeking treatment, it’s important to select a program that is designed to meet the unique needs of this age group. New Choices is staffed by counselors who have experience guiding young people through the transition to substance-free living.
At New Choices, substance abuse treatment counselors understand how to engage young people to help them develop the confidence, skills and social behaviors necessary to make positive changes. Counselors work collaboratively with youth, encouraging them to set individual goals. Together, they will address:
- Health
- Education
- Family Relationships
- Social Activities
- Mental Health
- Legal Issues
Using the above areas as a foundation for recovery, young adults in the program will continue to develop competencies that foster personal growth, financial independence and support long-term sobriety. They will focus on:
- Life Skills
- Understanding and managing the stages of change
- Anger management
- Mindfulness
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Employment readiness
MEDICATION-ASSISTED TREATMENT (MAT)
MAT is used in recovery to control cravings and ease the physical discomfort of withdrawal. At New Choices, MAT is available for young adults (18 and older). Each individual entering the New Choices program receives a comprehensive evaluation to help determine the best course of care.
New Choices supplies transportation, at no cost, to individuals in Mercer County and provides a meal each day. Programs are scheduled during late afternoon-evening hours, allowing participants to attend classes or workplace regularly. Family counseling is strongly encouraged and can be arranged.
