Hamilton family-strengthening program moves to Trenton
A Catholic Charities program that provides 24/7 crisis-intervention services in the community for youth under age 21 has moved to Trenton from its longtime home in Hamilton.
The Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) program relocated last week to Catholic Charities’ behavioral-health campus at 55 N. Clinton Ave., Trenton (Building 3). It previously was located in the Ibis Plaza at 3535 Quakerbridge Road, Hamilton.
MRSS staff intervene in crises involving mental health, behavioral health, developmental disabilities and addiction. Their goal: to preserve and stabilize the youth’s living situation. The program serves, on average, 875 youth/families a year in Mercer County. It has remained busy throughout the pandemic, even as the world ground to a halt last spring after the COVID-19 outbreak, receiving 817 referrals and serving 754 youth/families in 2020.
A cost-saving move
The move will greatly reduce operating costs for the program, whose staff primarily work in the community rather than in an office, said Mary Pettrow, service area director for Catholic Charities’ Children & Family Services.
“This is a strategic move to be fiscally solvent and is part of our ongoing responsibility and commitment to best serve our community,” she said.
