Backpack drive under way for students who need school supplies
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton is now collecting school supplies to ensure that children from low-income families start the school year with everything they need to learn.
Fifteen percent of New Jersey’s nearly 2 million children live in poverty, according to the 2018 New Jersey Kids County report.
For families that struggle to pay their bills, there’s typically no money left to buy everything on the lengthy list of supplies students need to succeed in school. Donations of backpacks, binders, paper, pencils, and other academic essentials help relieve that burden for many families.
Arriving at school fully stocked also ensures that low-income students can confidently face the year on the same footing as their classmates.
Our Community Services (in Mercer, Burlington, and Ocean counties) and Providence Houses (in Burlington and Ocean counties) are collecting school supplies this month and into the fall to distribute to students in need. Check out the fliers below to learn how you can help.
