School supplies drive now under way to help students succeed
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton is now collecting school supplies to ensure that children from low-income families start the school year with everything they need to learn.
About 15 million children live in poverty in the U.S., according to the National Center for Children in Poverty. In New Jersey, almost a third of the state’s nearly 2 million children live in low-income families, according to center statistics.
For families that struggle to pay their bills, there’s typically no money left to buy everything on the lengthy list of supplies students need to succeed in school. Donations of backpacks, binders, paper, pencils, and other academic essentials help relieve that burden for many families.
Arriving at school fully stocked also ensures that low-income students can confidently face the year on the same footing as their classmates.
Our Community Services and Providence Houses are collecting school supplies this month and into the fall to distribute to students in need. Please see the fliers below to see how you can help.
